44 Gatti is an Italian animated series that made its debut in 2018, created by Iginio Straffi, taking inspiration from the 1968 song of the same name which serves as its theme song. This series, created with the use of computer graphics by the Rainbow animation studio, in collaboration with the Antoniano of Bologna and with the support of Rai Ragazzi, received a warm welcome from the public, becoming a great success. Consisting of two seasons, it has a total of 104 episodes, each lasting approximately 10 minutes. The first season debuted on Rai Yoyo on 12 November 2018, while the second season was premiered on RaiPlay on 15 February 2020, with first 13 episodes, to then be broadcast regularly on Rai Yoyo starting from 2 March and subsequently on Rai 2 from 9 March of the same year. A further 13 episodes were made available on RaiPlay on 17 June 2020, subsequently broadcast on Rai Yoyo from 29 June. Finally, another 13 episodes were released on RaiPlay on October 19, 2020, airing on Rai Yoyo from October 26. The series follows the adventures of four adorable kittens called the Buffycats: Lampo, Milady, Pilou and Polpetta. Each character has their own distinctive characteristics that make them unique and fascinating. Lampo, the leader of the group, is a red tabby cat with overwhelming energy, always ready to face new challenges, even though he often ends up in trouble due to his impulsiveness. Milady, the band's bassist, is an intelligent and agile white kitten, passionate about fashion and with a sweet side that makes her adorable. Pilou, the drummer, is sweet, sensitive and thoughtful, with the ability to calm others with her sweet eyes, but she also hides a surprising determination when it comes to playing the drums. Finally, there is Polpetta, a big cat, lover of food and fun, always ready to get into trouble but with a heart of gold. Alongside the Buffycats, there are other interesting characters who enrich the world of the series. Grandma Pina is the kind lady who hosts the Buffycats in her house, offering them love and her famous tagliatelle which have the power to give them new energy. Isolde, Grandma Pina's granddaughter, is a lively and optimistic girl who possesses the rare gift of being able to communicate with cats, making her a valuable ally for the Buffycats. However, in the Buffycats' neighborhood there are also less friendly characters. Winston, Grandma Pina's rich and unpleasant neighbor, is determined to raze their house to build a shopping mall. Boss, the bully of the series, with his henchmen Blister and Scab, always tries to get Bastioni in trouble, but in the end he learns important life lessons, demonstrating a kind and altruistic side. Furthermore, there are other antagonists who complicate life of the Buffycats, such as Cat Traps (Trappy), Winston's robotic henchmen programmed to capture cats, Brutus and Bertie, the city's cat catchers, and the Landfill Monsters, electronic creatures that hinder the Buffycats and their friends.
